Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has revealed he gave Enzo Fernandez the technical skills he needed to score in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City.

The Argentina midfielder was sent away on international duty for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America and returned late to the squad, but the Italian boss still gave him the start against the Foxes, and Enzo impressed with an assist and a goal, with Maresca explaining the instructions he gave his players for the game.

“Enzo did well today, he was excellent from the start, as I said many times with Joao Felix, the problem is that it depends on our game plan, we use different types of players,” Maresca said.

“Today I thought it was the right game to use Enzo, even though he came back from international duty (late). I thought he did very well.”

“I tried to convince Enzo in the same way I did last year with (Wilfred) Ndidi and Kiernan (Dewsbury-Hall) that the attacking midfielders should get into the box,”

“The reason he scored today is because he got into the box and if he was outside the box he wouldn’t have scored. We are Promotion ufabet happy with what Enzo did.”

Finally, the Blues boss revealed how he is trying to convince Fernandez of his role, which appears to be more attacking than the role of his midfield partner Moises Caicedo.

Maresca’s side sit third in the Premier League table, level on points with Arsenal in fourth as they look to secure their place in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
